MicroPython 1.29
24 August 2026 ยท Release
Upstream notes: v1.29.0.
A new port: PSOC Edge
The psoc-edge port runs on Infineon PSOC Edge microcontrollers, starting with the KIT_PSE84_AI board. It has a UART REPL, a filesystem on the QSPI flash, and machine.Pin, UART and RTC, with interrupts on pins and UARTs. It joins the ports at tier 2.
New silicon and boards
- ESP32-H2 on the esp32 port, which now builds with ESP-IDF 5.5.2.
- Thirteen new board profiles across the esp32, psoc-edge, rp2 and stm32 ports.
- rp2 moves to pico-sdk 2.3.0 and adds
rp2.DMATimer.
machine
machine.CAN, introduced on STM32 in 1.28, now also runs on the alif and mimxrt ports.machine.mem_backup()returns a writablememoryviewof memory that usually survives a hard reset.- STM32 gains
machine.SDCardand the window watchdog; alif gainsmachine.WDTand a timeout formachine.lightsleep().
Language
bytes.find() accepts an integer, int.to_bytes() takes signed=True, and bytes.decode() and str() accept the "strict", "ignore" and "replace" error modes. Only "utf-8", "utf8" and "ascii" are accepted as encodings; any other name raises LookupError.
Changes to check before upgrading
- The powerpc port has been folded into the qemu port.
- On esp32 and stm32,
SDCard.readblocks()andwriteblocks()return 0 for success and a negative number for failure. - Every nrf board reports
sys.platformas"nrf".
